Chaturfier 7.0 - Handling name changes and more

Jan 14, 2025ChaturfierBugfix, Feature, Release, Technical

Update 7.0 of Chaturfier is mostly about model name changes.

Broadcasters sometimes change their name / nickname / alias for whatever reason. Effectively these are new Chaturbate accounts, but with the followers of their previous account. The number of followers is also the only metric that Chaturfier can use to detect these name changes. Anything else in an account's meta data can change, even things like gender, birth date, location and tags.

The main reason we want to detect those name changes is because otherwise alerts and lists are not updated automatically, and you will miss online notifications. However, unfortunately Chaturbate does not provide information about these type of new accounts, even after several requests. So after post-poning this issue for ages, I have decided to implement a custom method to handle broadcasters changing their name.

Handling broadcaster name changes in Chaturfier is partially done with automatic detection. This often works well, but not always. For those cases where Chaturfier cannot figure out exactly who changed their name into whom, it may ask you for help. Thus, when visiting the profile page of a model who recently changed their name, or the profile page of their original account, you may be asked to confirm or contradict a name change, or even to provide a suggestion. If you know and can help, please do your fellow user a favor and provide some input.

This feature has been on the TODO-list since early on in the production of this service, and has been in the making for many months, even while working on other recent updates. The partially automated and partially crowd-sources solution provided for an interesting engineering challenge. I, for one, am happy that this thing is finally deployed and am looking forward to your input.

You can read more about broadcasters changing their name in the help section.

Other features, updates and fixes in this update include, but are not limited to:

  • The search widgets will now prioritise and highlight models (with a blue/green background) for which you have an alert defined. This makes searching for your favorite models easier.
  • Added paging to a model's historical data.
  • In the Charts and Supporters, the table header will be sticky if the screen size allows for it. For small screens the table will be allowed to scroll horizontally if needed. Sorry, can't do both.
  • Fixed reference to ranking Charts on a model's profile page.
  • Fixed unlisted ranking not showing up on a model's profile page.
